It was a big night for the 38-year-old in Leipzig Croatia needed to win this game to make it to the next stage of the competition.
He had a chance to put his team ahead with a penalty in the 54th minute, but he missed when Italy's goalkeeper saved it. Modric was devastated, but he quickly made up for it.
After another attack by Croatia, Donnarumma saved a shot but left the ball Modric's feet, and this time he scored. Unfortunately, Italy scored at the last minute, putting Croatia's chances in jeopardy.
Modric wasn't sure how much longer he could keep playing after that tough loss. He felt like they fought hard until the end and deserved better luck.
Even though he got the Player of the Match award, Modric didn't look happy at all posing for photos. Fans noticed too and called it one of the saddest moments for a player getting an award like that.
Despite being disappointed, Modric made history by becoming the oldest scorer in Euros history with that goal.
Now, Croatia's fate hangs on other teams' results. This might be Modric's last chance with his national team. It's a tough day for him and all of Croatia.
